Roll of our Liaison Between Security Management and SAPS:

Establishing a Communication Channel:

- Security management must establish direct contact with the local SAPS station and relevant officers in charge.
- Maintain a directory of key SAPS contacts, including station commander, sector police officers, and emergency numbers.
- Assign a dedicated security liaison officer to coordinate communication with SAPS.

Incident Reporting Protocol:

- All serious incidents (e.g. theft, assault, vandalism, suspicious behavior) must be reported immediately to SAPS.
- Provide a detailed report including time, location, description of events, individuals involved, and any available evidence (CCTV footage, witness statements, etc.).
- Cooperate fully during investigations and follow all legal procedures when handing over suspects or evidence.

- Support SAPS in crowd control, crime scene management, and information gathering.

Information Sharing:

- Share relevant intelligence with SAPS (e.g., suspicious activity, known threats, patterns of theft or vandalism).
- Ensure that all shared information is accurate, timely, and handled confidentially.

Arrest & Detainment Procedures:

- Security personnel may perform a citizen’s arrest in accordance with South African law, but must immediately notify SAPS.
- Detainees must be treated with dignity, held safely, and handed over to SAPS without delay.
- Avoid the use of excessive force or unlawful conduct during apprehension.

Compliance & Legal Cooperation:

- Stay updated with SAPS protocols, regulations, and legislative changes.
- Ensure that all actions taken by security personnel are in line with South African law and do not interfere with SAPS duties.
- Attend court proceedings or hearings when required as witnesses or to submit evidence.

Regular Engagement & Relationship Building:

- Schedule routine meetings with SAPS leadership to discuss ongoing concerns or joint efforts.
- Participate in Community Policing Forums (CPFs) and crime prevention programs.
- Promote mutual respect and professional collaboration at all levels.
